Influenza (commonly known as Flu) is a contagious respiratory illness. It is caused by influenza viruses. Influenza can cause mild to severe illness, and can even lead to death. People who have the flu usually feel some or all of these symptoms: fever (or feeling feverish/chills); cough; sore throat; runny or stuffy nose; muscle or body aches; headaches; fatigue. Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children than adults). The most common way to catch the flu is  breathing in droplets from coughs or sneezes. During 2009-2010, a new and  different flu virus called "swine flu" (H1N1) spread worldwide. it caused the first flu pandemic in more than 40 years. It is estimated now that the H1N1 pandemic resulted in about 12,000 flu-related deaths in the U.S.
